1.75" Triple Prong Full-Grain Buffalo Leather Belt – Tan

This 1.75-inch tan triple-prong leather belt combines a wide three-prong buckle with substantial full-grain buffalo leather and a warm oil-tanned finish.

I make this belt in my Colorado Springs workshop from one solid piece of full-grain buffalo leather. At approximately 9–10 oz, or about 3.75–4.0mm thick, it has a solid feel while remaining practical for regular wear.

The wide buckle uses three individual prongs that engage three rows of fitting holes across the belt. You may also see this style described as a 3-prong belt or three-prong leather belt.

Tan Oil-Tanned Buffalo Leather

The tan leather used for this belt has an oil-tanned finish that gives it a warm, traditional workwear appearance and a comfortable feel.

Oil-tanned leather is treated with oils during the tanning and finishing process. That helps give the leather flexibility and the rich feel that makes this type of leather particularly well suited to casual and work belts.

The tan color also shows the natural character of the leather more readily than a heavily coated dark finish. Grain, texture and small variations from hide to hide are normal characteristics of full-grain buffalo leather.

One Solid Piece of Full-Grain Buffalo Leather

I make this belt from one solid piece of full-grain buffalo leather. There is no bonded leather core, synthetic filler or manmade material hidden between layers.

Full-grain leather retains the natural grain structure of the hide rather than sanding away the surface and covering it with a heavy artificial finish.

At approximately 9–10 oz, this leather falls into what I consider a substantial everyday and work-belt range. It has enough thickness to feel sturdy without becoming unnecessarily bulky.

Why Choose a Triple-Prong Belt?

A triple-prong buckle gives a wide belt a very different appearance from a traditional single-prong buckle.

Instead of one prong engaging one fitting hole, three individual prongs engage three aligned rows of holes across the width of the leather.

On a 1.75-inch strap, the wide buckle looks proportional to the belt and creates the substantial appearance this style is known for.

Why Choose a Tan Leather Belt?

Tan gives this belt a lighter, warmer appearance than traditional dark brown or black leather.

It works especially well with blue jeans, khaki, olive, workwear and boots, and the lighter color allows more of the leather's natural grain and texture to remain visible.

Like most real full-grain leather, the appearance will gradually change with use. Areas around the buckle, fitting holes and belt loops receive more friction and handling and will naturally begin to show wear before less-used portions of the strap.

I consider that normal aging rather than something the leather needs to hide.

A True 1.75-Inch Wide Leather Belt

At 1.75 inches wide, this belt is noticeably wider than a typical 1.5-inch casual belt.

That extra width is an important part of the triple-prong look, but make sure the belt loops on the pants you plan to wear are large enough.

Jeans and work pants usually accommodate wider belts better than dress pants, although loop dimensions vary by manufacturer.

Triple Prong, 3 Prong or Three Prong?

You may see belts like this described several different ways. Triple-prong belt, three-prong belt and 3-prong belt all describe the same basic buckle configuration: one wide buckle with three individual prongs.

Some shoppers also use the term “triple buckle belt,” although technically this belt has one buckle rather than three separate buckles.

How to Order the Correct Belt Size

Do not order your pants size.

The most accurate way to determine your belt size is to measure a belt you already wear.

1. Lay your current belt flat.
2. Measure from the beginning of the leather at the buckle fold to the fitting hole you use most often.
3. Do not include the buckle itself in the measurement.
4. That measurement is the size you should order. If your measurement is an odd number, round up to the next even size.

For example, if your belt measures 37 inches, order a size 38. If it measures 40 inches, order a size 40.

Caring for Tan Oil-Tanned Leather

Oil-tanned leather is generally pretty easy to care for. Wipe away ordinary surface dirt with a clean cloth and allow the belt to dry naturally if it becomes wet.

Condition the leather when it actually begins to feel dry rather than automatically applying conditioner on a fixed schedule.

Keep in mind that leather conditioners can darken lighter tan leather, sometimes substantially. Use a small amount and test an inconspicuous area first if maintaining the lighter color is important to you.

Avoid soaking the leather or using direct heat to dry it.
