Triple Prong Leather Belts

A triple-prong leather belt is built around a wide buckle with three individual prongs instead of the single prong found on most traditional belts. Each prong engages its own row of fitting holes, creating the distinctive look and broad buckle connection that defines this style.

I make the triple-prong belts in this collection in my Colorado Springs workshop from solid full-grain buffalo leather. At 1.75 inches wide (45mm), these are noticeably wider and more substantial than a typical 1.5-inch casual belt.

You may also see this style described as a 3-prong belt or three-prong belt. Some shoppers use the term “triple buckle belt,” although technically the belt uses one wide buckle with three separate prongs.

Why Choose a Triple-Prong Belt?

The appeal of a triple-prong belt is pretty straightforward: it combines a wide leather strap with a buckle that looks proportional to that extra width.

Rather than one prong engaging one fitting hole, three prongs engage the leather across the width of the belt. The result is a substantial buckle connection and a rugged appearance that works especially well with jeans, work pants and casual clothing.

Triple-prong belts are a good choice for people who specifically want a belt with more width and presence than a standard casual belt. They are not intended to replace a narrow dress belt.

Choose the Leather and Color That Fits You

I offer several different versions of the same basic triple-prong design. The buckle configuration and 1.75-inch width are similar, but the leather finish and appearance give each belt its own personality.

• Black: A versatile full-grain buffalo leather belt with a traditional black finish. This is the most straightforward choice if you want the triple-prong design without a lot of color variation.
• Chestnut: A warmer traditional leather color with brown and reddish-brown tones that pair especially well with denim, boots and casual clothing.
• Tan: A lighter oil-tanned buffalo leather with a warm workwear appearance that shows more of the natural grain and character of the hide.
• Crazy Horse Brown: Full-grain buffalo leather with an oil-and-wax pull-up finish. Bending and rubbing the leather creates lighter and darker areas that develop into patina with use.
• Crazy Horse Gray: A distinctive gray pull-up leather that develops tonal variation, surface character and lighter or darker areas as the belt is worn.

Full-Grain Buffalo Leather

These belts are made from solid full-grain buffalo leather rather than bonded leather or a synthetic-filled belt construction.

Full-grain leather retains the natural grain structure of the hide. That means grain, texture and small surface variations may differ from one belt to another. Those differences are normal characteristics of real leather.

The exact leather weight and finish varies by style, so I recommend reviewing the specifications on the individual product page before ordering.

A True 1.75-Inch Wide Belt

All of the belts in this collection are approximately 1.75 inches wide, or 45mm. That's wider than the 1.5-inch width commonly used for men's casual belts.

That additional width is an important part of the triple-prong look, but it also means you should check your belt loops before ordering. Jeans and work pants generally accommodate wider belts better than dress pants, although belt-loop dimensions vary by manufacturer.
